History
Beginnings
Since 1965, when Pastor A.A. Wells launched the church in a storefront located at 3591 N Mississippi Ave., the people of Emmanuel have been committed to see the power of Christ impact their own lives, their relationships, and their community. Growing from the simple, powerful DNA of a focus on Scripture, worship, service, and Spirit-led transformation, today Emmanuel is a church marked both by its rich heritage and its openness to change.
Today
In 2001, Pastor C.T. Wells and his wife, DeAngeloa, accepted the call for him to serve as
Emmanuel's Lead Pastor. In 2004, the church moved to a state-of-the-art facility in North Portland off of Alberta St. and I-5. Under Pastor C.T.'s leadership, the church has continued its mission to teach people how to live holy lives. It has also furthered its long-standing reputation as a force for good in the community through evangelism, volunteerism, and social justice projects. And through it all, Emmanuel has followed God's call to welcome people from every ethnic, economic, and social background.
If you want to know how Jesus is relevant to life, or if you want to contribute to a community called to impact people and culture with the gospel, then we hope to meet you. So remember: you are always welcome at Emmanuel.
